Born in 1965 in Ankara, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Avni Atay completed his undergraduate education at Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) Faculty of Medicine. He pursued his specialization in Pediatrics at the GATA Department of Child Health and Diseases.

In 1997, he began working as a Pediatric Health and Diseases Specialist. In 2002, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Pediatric Hematology Department at GATA. He became an Associate Professor in 2006 and worked in the Pediatric Hematology Department and Pediatric Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at GATA between 2002 and 2009.

In 2017, he was promoted to Professor and currently serves at Yeni Yüzyıl University Faculty of Medicine, Pediatric Hematology Department.
